Samsung Galaxy S4 Ads: How Samsung Plans to Beat the iPhone

The Samsung Galaxy S4 release is close, and Samsung’s first Samsung Galaxy S4 ads are already online, showing off how Samsung hopes to market the Galaxy S4 to potential buyers.
So far there are no in your face Samsung Galaxy S4 vs. iPhone 5 ads, but it may just be a matter of Samsung waiting on the iPhone 5S release to pull out those guns.
The collection of Samsung Galaxy S4 ads highlight three of the Galaxy S4′s unique features, which focus on photos and sharing, using the Galaxy S4′s Group Play feature and  travel help with the S Translator app.
While the commercials fail to call this out, most of these features will only work with other Samsung smartphones, and at least one will only work with other Samsung Galaxy S4 devices, so users will need to hope their friend’s buy a Galaxy S4 as well.

The Samsung Galaxy S4 ads come from Samsung Mobile Netherlands, so we may see slightly different versions in the U.S., and we will most certainly
see the Samsung Galaxy S4 appear in a Unicorn Apocalypse ad as Samsung goes after business users. The business focused Samsung Galaxy S4 ad will likely focus on Samsung KNOX and the Lojack-like tracking that comes with the Samsung Galaxy S4.

Samsung Galaxy S4 – Sound Shot

In the first Samsung Galaxy S4 ad, a pair fo travelers leave home with the instruction to take a lot of pictures. Any smartphone can take pictures, but Samsung takes it a step further with Sound Shot.
This feature allows users to take a photo and capture sound. While it sounds like a gimmick, the ad offers a nice way of using it, to show off church bells, music, a quick note to mom and more. Used like this, the Sound Shot feature enhances photos and helps the viewer get a sense of the experience.

The iPhone 5 cannot take photos with sound out of the box, though some may argue that a video or a Vine will suffice. The HTC One offers a similar function with the HTC Zoe feature, but it captures photos and videos in one.

Samsung Galaxy S4 – Samsung Group Play

The second Samsung Galaxy S4 ad shows off Group Play, a feature that lets users pair up to eight Samsung Galaxy S4 devices together to use them as a connected sound system. This is something we don’t see from the iPhone or HTC One, so we may see Samsung drill down on this feature more.

Samsung Group Play only works on Samsung smartphones.

Samsung Galaxy S4 – S Translate

The Samsung Galaxy S4 also comes with Samsung’s own translator app which can turn talking or typing into one of many languages. The ad below shows a traveler using the app to thank hosts for dinner.

Google offers a similar experience for all Android phones and other options exist for the iPhone, so this ad may not do as much to sell the Galaxy S4.
The Samsung Galaxy S4 release is set for late April in many countries and will arrive in the U.S. on May 1st on T-Mobile. Galaxy S4 pre-orders start on April 16th on AT&T. We are looking for a Sprint and Verizon Galaxy S4 announcement and release soon.

The Samsung Galaxy S4 features a 5-inch 1080P HD display and runs Android 4.2.2 with a collection of Samsung specific features that use sensors to deliver touch free and motion control.
